Here you will find information about the Cub Scout section of our group.
What is a Cub Pack?
A Cub Scout pack is a group of young people aged between 8 and 10 1/2 years guided and assisted by adult leaders. The pack is organised into sixes consisting of naturally six members, each six has a Sixer and a Seconder who as senior members look after the rest of the six and assist the adult leaders with training. Each six is identified by their coloured woggle and operates as a team within the pack, six was chosen as the number of members because it is the ideal size for a working unit. The adult leaders generally take their names from the characters of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, the senior leader is usually known as Akela, who was the leader of the wolf pack in the book. The Cub Scout Leader (CSL) in consultation with the Pack Council plans the programme of activities. Now I hear 'What's the Pack Council?' Well it's the Sixer’s & older Cubs’ getting together with the Leaders, to discuss the activities and running of the pack.
Our Cub Pack
Our Cub Scout pack is co-educational and meets on a Wednesday, we provide a wide variety of activities, including outdoor activities, adventurous activities, indoor craftwork, interesting local visits and most importantly fun! The meetings generally start with a game and proceed through a teaching activity again with the emphasis on fun; it's much easier to use a game situation to teach scouting skills. The meeting will usually close with another short game and any announcements, hopefully everyone goes home happy and tired, the leaders do!! The sort of things we teach are tracking, simple navigation, backwoods cooking, camping, hiking and the list goes on. There are community visits to places of worship, interesting local places like the planetarium and local facilities such as the fire station and police station. There are visits and talks from local organisations such as the Salvation Army, the RSPCA and Three Owls Bird Sanctuary.
Programme Zones
The programme of activities undertaken by the Pack is designed to help the Cubs develop as individuals. The Cubs’ start work on these zones when they first attend a Pack meeting. The activities together help the Cubs to earn their badges, to be worn, as many Cubs before, with pride, on their uniforms.

Global.
The Cub Scouts can gain any number of the thirty two “Activity” Badges, four staged “Activity” Badges (Available to all sections), three “Group Awards” (Gained throughout the Scout Group) and the five “Challenge” Badges. In addition, the Cub Scout can qualify for the “Chief Scouts Silver Award”.
In addition, a “Joining In Badge” is presented on the anniversary of the Cub Scout first joining the movement, one badge every year, in all sections until they move on from the Scout Troop at 14 years old!
The last badge in the series is the Moving On award. It fosters links with the Scout Troop, whilst allowing the Cub Scout to complete the membership award of the Scout Section. They will undertake this badge when they reach 10 years old, or a little older.
